Laboratory Guiding Principles

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Anti-racist work in the Hogan Laboratory

  • We actively acknowledge our privileges, existing power structures and institutional racism, and use this as a call to action through equitable recruitment, mentorship, and resource allocation to examine how we build the scientific team.
  • We value diverse lived experiences across culture, background, ability status and identity. Our knowledge about, and interest in scientific problems is often guided by our experiences at home and in our communities. Having a diverse representation of people ensures we have a breadth of interests and personal experience guiding our scientific endeavors.
  • We are committed to anti-racist work through structured mentorship programs, regular bias training, and transparent hiring practices. This commitment includes acknowledging our privileged statuses and doing the personal work to break down barriers to create a better laboratory, institution and society.
